Diving Ducks at Deeping Lakes

Another bright day and not too cold and windy! We visited Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Deeping Lakes SSSI, a series of flooded gravel pits which is great location for birds throughout the year. During the winter they have good numbers of diving ducks from the far north and we spent time with a pair of beautiful and very confiding Goldeneye and some rather less obliging Goosanders. #LincolnshireWildlifeTrust #DeepingLakes #Goldeneye

Winter Sun at RSPB Frampton Marsh

A lovely Boxing Day walk at RSPB Frampton Marsh with lovely light encouraged me to spend time with the birds feeding around the Visitor Centre. The bright colours of the Goldfinches and Robins were enhanced by the winter sun and even the less flamboyant, but sadly declining, Greenfinches looked delightful. Greenfinch populations have more than halved in the last 10 years and has been linked to an outbreak of trichomonosis, a parasite-induced disease which prevents the birds from feeding properly. Other bird species can also be affected. Due to the way the disease is transmitted, regularly cleaning bird feeders and the surrounding areas can reduce the impact. #RSPB #FramptonMarsh

An early morning at Frampton Marsh

A very early start on a beautiful morning at the wonderful RSPB Frampton Marsh reserve in Lincolnshire. Sadly not early enough to catch the Whooper Swans departing to their feeding grounds well before sunrise, but the thousands of geese (Brent, Pink-footed, Greylag) increasing numbers of migrant thrushes (Fieldfares and Redwings) and the return of over-wintering Stonechats made it a very morning blessed by wonderful sunshine. #RSPB #FramptonMarsh

Big Cat Photography courses in the New Year

Having enjoyed the company of many hundreds of students on our photography workshops and masterclasses at the Cat Survival Trust in Hertfordshire this year, we are pleased to announce our dates for next year starting in March. These courses are held at the Cat Survival Trust, a private wildlife sanctuary and rescue centre, under the guidance of professional wildlife photographer Peter Smart and his experienced team of tutors. We provide a wonderful opportunity to get close and photograph over 40 cats including Snow Leopard, Jaguar, Puma and Amur Leopard, as well as contributing to the work of the Cat Survival Trust in the UK and their conservation projects overseas.
