Winter Sun at RSPB Frampton Marsh
A lovely Boxing Day walk at RSPB Frampton Marsh with lovely light encouraged me to spend time with the birds feeding around the Visitor Centre. The bright colours of the Goldfinches and Robins were enhanced by the winter sun and even the less flamboyant, but sadly declining, Greenfinches looked delightful.
Greenfinch populations have more than halved in the last 10 years and has been linked to an outbreak of trichomonosis, a parasite-induced disease which prevents the birds from feeding properly. Other bird species can also be affected. Due to the way the disease is transmitted, regularly cleaning bird feeders and the surrounding areas can reduce the impact.
